Why Everyone Fails
It’s currently New Years Day, 2022. (edit, I‘m actually in MIA airport waiting on my 6 hour delayed flight, fml.) I’m sure everyone is making note of their New Years goals, or writing an Instagram post on what they hope to accomplish. And I’m sure most of them will fail, give up, or decide it’s not worth it.
But wake up call, you can decide how your year is going to go. Either you can sit back and let events affect you, and be lazy with your goals, or you can grab 2022 by the balls and make it your year.
Why is it that so many people give up a month into the new year? Is everyone simply lazy and unable to commit to something? Not quite. I’ve found the main reason people give up on their goals is so simple. I’ve practiced this almost daily and have found myself not just meeting my goals, but far exceeding them.
It’s quite simple. You just have to write it down.
Not in a social media post, or in the group chat, but with pen and paper. There is a study out there that followed a MBA graduates from Harvard. Ten years after graduation, the 3% that wrote their goals down make 10x more money than the other 97% put together.
Umm… holy shit?
If this isn’t reason enough to write down your goals, I don’t know what is. Writing down goals and resolutions turns them from impossible dreams, to tangible goals. And don’t just write them once on January 1st. Write them every. damn. day.
Set an alarm to go off seven days a week, at the same time, and spend a couple minutes writing down your goals. Maybe you think it sounds silly, but I’ve been doing it for a few months and have gotten a job at a dream agency not even 2 weeks after graduation, and will be moving to the West coast this month. I wrote down these two goals with the intention of hitting them by June 2022. I’m 6 months early.
The key to really achieving your New Years Goals is writing them down with pen and paper, and truly working towards them every single day. They should always be on your mind and every major decision in your life should be made with the intention of it leading you towards your endgame.
Don’t be afraid to say 2022 will be your year. Stop saying 2022 will be just like 2020 and 2021.
Hold yourself accountable for your own actions.
